DescriptionAlvina Maynard and her family operate the River Hill Ranch alpaca farm in Richmond, KY. After moving to Kentucky, Maynard and her husband decided to get into niche farming and, consequently, they first had to learn the neccasary skills to be an alpaca farmer. When considering the nature of the work, Maynard comments on raising Suri Alpacas, as well as the crafts of knitting, weaving, and crocheting that she and her family utilize to get the greatest use out of the alpaca fibers that they harvest each year. In the interview, Maynard discusses what she has learned and her path to success in the niche farming industry. She also concludes that she is excited to get others involved in alpaca farming.
