DescriptionMs. Bernice Thomas, a lifelong resident of Lexington, KY received her early education at Booker T. Washington Elementary School and graduated from Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in 1962. She recalls pleasant memories about her time spent at Dunbar High School and the African American community's reaction when Lexington, KY closed the majority of their black schools. She discusses the integration process and the prejudice that ensued due to integration. Ms. Thomas concludes the interview by stressing the importance of good caring teachers in the school systems, and discussing her occupational history.
