Description An account of the resource The History of Buckeye School Project deals with the education and social history of the Buckeye Community, a small unincorporated community that sprang up during the early 20th Century in Garrard County near Lancaster, Kentucky. Buckeye High School eventually closed down in the mid-1950s. The community and school never fully recovered from the Great Depression and was eventually dissolved due to changing political circumstances. Description An account of the resource The History of Buckeye School Project deals with the education and social history of the Buckeye Community, a small unincorporated community that sprang up during the early 20th Century in Garrard County near Lancaster, Kentucky. Buckeye High School eventually closed down in the mid-1950s. The community and school never fully recovered from the Great Depression and was eventually dissolved due to changing political circumstances. For the purposes of this project, a small town is defined as one whose population is under 2,500 people. Towns representing a cross section of Kentucky small town life were chosen for this project, from a variety of areas of the state. Interviews were conducted to find out what life in a small town was like, what problems these small towns have had, how the towns have changed over time, and how the inhabitants have changed.
