<text>This project focuses on approximately fifteen small towns in Kentucky, their citizens, character, and changes that have taken place. For the purposes of this project, a small town is defined as one whose population is under 2,500 people. Towns representing a cross section of Kentucky small town life were chosen for this project, from a variety of areas of the state. Interviews were conducted to find out what life in a small town was like, what problems these small towns have had, how the towns have changed over time, and how the inhabitants have changed. Interviewees also discuss the vitality of their town.

<text>This project was done in conjunction with two others: Kentucky County Judges and Kentucky Newspapers. The purpose of the three projects was to document Kentucky politics by interviewing politically astute members of the local power structure (judges and school superintendents) and observers of local politics (newspaper editors and owners).

School superintendents discuss Kentucky politics, education, their personal histories and careers, and their roles and influence in the social and political history of their counties. Almost every county is represented.

A revisit of the project was launched in the fall of 2019 with the help of Kentucky Oral History Commission grant funding and the efforts of Nate Daniels and Crystal Allen-Daniels. Additional interviews will be added as second phase interviews are collected and processed into the collection.</text>
