Coal Company Towns

The focus of the Coal Company Towns Project is the social life and economic conditions in eastern Kentucky coal towns, primarily those owned by the Stearns Coal and Lumber Company in McCreary County and those in Harlan County. Residents of these coal towns, some no longer in existence, discuss their personal histories and coal mining; there is an emphasis on the lives of women.
